📈 Decline of Graphic Design Jobs in U.S. Specialized Design Services (2000–2025)

Since 2000, graphic design has steadily lost both job count and share within U.S. specialized design services, a trend that accelerated after the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. From 2000 to January 2025, employment in graphic design services declined by 31%, while interior design and other specialized design services grew by 70% and 115%, respectively. Over the same period, total U.S. private-sector employment expanded by 22%. As a result, graphic design’s share of specialized design services employment fell from 61% in 2000 to 36% in 2024.
