Where the Super-Rich Reside

According to the Forbes World's Billionaires List of 2025, many of the world's richest people are citizens of the United States. The country counted 902 billionaires per the list's last release Tuesday. This is far ahead of the second-ranked country, China (with 516) and third-placed India with 205. While the number of U.S. and Indian billionaires rose, it decreased in China - by more than 100 in the past three years.
According to Forbes, 288 new billionaire were minted in the last year, translating into an average of 5.5 new billionaires every week and pushing the number of billionaires worldwide over the 3,000-mark for the first time. This included the first billionaire from Albania this year. Samir Mane is the founder and president of an investment conglomerate that owns shopping malls, retail stores, a bank and luxury real estate after having started out selling appliances.
After the U.S., Germany saw the biggest number of new billionaires including the many heirs to the Boehringer Ingelheim pharmaceutical fortune as well as Anna and Franz Viegener of HVAC and plumming company Viega, Selina Stihl of the chainsaw company by the same name and the majority owner of Mast-Jägermeister, Florian Rehm.
Also new on the list in 2025 are well-known U.S. celebrities like comedian Jerry Seinfeld, singer Bruce Springsteen and former actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger. Notable female newcomers are U.S. chairwoman Barbara Banke, who built Jackson Family Wines with her husband who died in 2011, as well as Greek citizen Anna Angelicoussis, who founded several shipping companies with her brother John and by herself.
