Lobbying Spend Steadily Increasing

Companies, unions, trade associations, and other groups spend significant amounts of money to lobby the federal government and influence policy and government decisions.

In 2023, lobbyists spent a record $4.3 billion dollars on lobbying activities, up from $4.1 billion in 2022–and the highest annual total so far.

The Pharmaceuticals and Health Products industry was the biggest industry spender, investing a total of $382.6 million on lobbying last year.

The two biggest spenders in the pharmaceuticals industry were major trade groups: Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and Pharmaceutical Care Management Association.
