Where Democrcay Grew the Most in 2024 ⚖️

Libya saw the highest upgrade in its democratic score in 2024 as feuding between rival militias declined. Since 2016, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance has dropped from 1.3 million to around 300,000.
Three neighboring countries—Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland—all saw their scores increase moderately. Overall, Europe was home to five of the top 10 upgrades in democracy.
In 2024, Portugal achieved "full democracy" status, rising from a "flawed democracy," fueled by debt reduction, a fiscal surplus, and a booming tourism industry.
