Time Change in Europe: Between Tradition and Desire for Change

This coming Sunday, the clocks in most European Countries will be turned forward again! In the night from Saturday to Sunday, we'll lose one hour with the time change from 2 AM to 3 AM – a topic that continues to be controversial in Europe.
Despite the European Parliament's decision in 2019 to abolish the biannual time changes, the decision still lies with the member states. They can choose between summer and winter time, which could lead to a fragmentation of the internal market.
In Germany and other countries, there is strong opposition to the time change, as it causes health problems and inconveniences. The majority of Europeans want to abolish it, but disagreement over permanently keeping summer or winter time blocks a unified solution.
