2023 featured the most worker strikes since 2000

How often do strikes happen? Work stoppages have decreased since the 1970s, when higher union membership led to hundreds annually.  

33 strikes involving at least 1,000 workers began in 2023 — the most in a single year since 2000. As of September, there have been 21 in 2024.
