Key takeaway

Pennsylvania had the highest number of violations in 2023, by a significant margin. Of its 24,525 total violations in 2023, 14,808 were related to Monitoring & Reporting (failure to conduct regular monitoring of water quality, or to submit monitoring results in a timely fashion).

Furthermore, of Pennsylvania's 8,083 public water systems (PWS), 3,660 were found to have at least one violation in 2023 (45% of total).
