Share of Young Adults living with their parents in Europe

Most Scandinavian countries have one of the lowest rates of young people living with their parents among European countries. Most residents of this region aged 25-34 prefer to live separately.

In Western Europe, the situation is similar: the proportion of young people staying in their parents' home is relatively low, ranging from 11% in the Netherlands to 40% in Ireland.

At the same time, in Southern and Eastern Europe, the figure is much higher, often exceeding 40%. Especially high values are recorded in the Balkans, where in a number of countries about 60% of young people continue to live with their parents. The leader among them is Montenegro, where this level reaches 69%. For comparison, in the United States, among citizens aged 25-34, cohabitation with parents is about 19.2%.
