BYD and Tesla Still the Dominant Players
Between January and May 2024, BYD represented a significant 21% of global electric vehicle sales. Tesla accounted for 11%, though it should be noted that Tesla only makes fully electric models.
Of the 1,191,478 electric vehicles sold by BYD, 580,974 were fully electric. According to CleanTechnica, the majority of BYD’s sales growth is in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), which climbed 54% YoY in May.
