Tesla is the Most American Automaker 🇺🇸

Key Takeaways:
- Tesla will see no impact from tariffs (currently paused) since it assembles all of its U.S.-sold vehicles within the country.
- Meanwhile, one-fourth of Ford’s, and one-third of GM & Stellantis’ cars sold in the U.S. were imported from America’s neighbours in 2024.
- Data for this chart is sourced from The Economist.
Touché, Tesla
Tesla has regularly claimed it’s the most American manufacturer.
And the data says it's true.
Not only does it assemble all the cars sold in the U.S. within the country, it also sources most of its parts within the U.S. as well.
Thus, proposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico—currently paused till April—will have no impact on the company.
The other Big Three automakers (Ford, GM, and Stellantis) cannot say the same.
Between 25-33% of all U.S. vehicles sold by them are sourced from across one of the two borders. And this doesn’t even go into parts used for manufacturing.
